the naughtiest jumper

i cast this on after the dawny swim last year - november i think - and have been very naughty about it. dazzled by other yarns and patterns and knitalongs, procrastinating over doing the sleeves, it's travelled to the north coast of nsw, western australia, and been ignored. i was a bit "blah" about it, not sure i'd wear it once i'd finished it.

i finally finished it this weekend, and i love it! great pattern, beautiful yarn by the v talented kristen of skein

thank you to my long-suffering photographer

cronulla conquest

fantastic swims today at cronulla....

i'd only ever been to cronulla once before and have never swum there
two swims on offer - a 1km triangle (warm-up) and 2.3km swim around shark island.  pretty choppy conditions out there, and v cold southerly that resulted in totally numb arms for me - made the last part of the choppy bit pretty hard. best marked course i've ever seen though, so i just ploughed on. i think i've found an ok way to swim through chop - will keep trying and ask some experts.

talked to a local before the start - he gave some great tips for landmarks and invited me to swim with their social group - they swim saturdays and sundays around the island - meet up at 9am outside the surf club (7.30am group meets both days as well). they then have coffee at one of the many coffee shops on the beach.

great results from my friends - michael (@maitlandswimmer) 1st in 1km and 2nd in 2.3km swims, damien (@aquaboy62) 2nd in 1km swim and jen (@coffeemumswims) 3rd in 2.3km swim - brilliant!

will definately be back next year!

newcastle wharf-to-waves swim

gotta love a current-assisted swim with a small turnout of competitors

rotto feb 2012

i got our finish photos from the rottnest swim this week....

i really can't describe it as well as nicole (2nd from left) so please read this wonderful report on the oceanswims website

i must admit two things...

1. a few of us were desperate for the loo in the photo above
2. after finding the loo, we didn't get further than the bar...

and heartache...

hello everyone!!!

....so i thought i would write about swimming and knitting adventures here for anyone who's interested....

currently on a WIP-off frenzy, so i can start knitting some new things...

beet heid

paper dolls

semele for varelle

cocoa

i MUST finish all of these before starting something new

beet head will be done by today, will put up some blocking snaps. i'm knitting it in rowan fine tweed, which is kind of like the teenager equivalent of wool - gorgeous and bright but it does what it wants and is quite hard to control. i'm sure it will block well but it's a bit hard to knit fairisle with.

semele requires concentration and is slow-going but it's for a lovely person - varelle is my stepsons' grandmother - an incredibly creative and generous woman who is so lovely to me and has made some gorgeous things for me

cocoa has been on the needles since last year and i WILL finish it by sunday night.

swimming-wise, i'm planning to go to squad tonight at charlestown and will be swimming in newcastle harbour tomorrow (part of the sparke-helmore weekend), and cronulla sunday

...update at 2pm... ran out of the grey background yarn for my hat - BOOOOOO!!! luckily more is on the way - early next week hopefully....
